feat(MessageComposer): make composer previews a configurable set - #3365
Depends on GetStream/stream-chat-js#1970 (the vite example removes stream-chat's poll-only middleware, which that PR exports). It is released in 10.0.0-rc.29, which this PR now depends on.
🎯 Goal
Let integrators choose, order and extend what the message composer shows above the input, the same way they already can with the message action set. Let an app attach a poll to the message being composed, let a message bubble show a poll next to its text and attachments, and let each message action decide for itself which messages it applies to.
🛠 Implementation details
Composer previews
MessageComposerPreviews renders defaultMessageComposerPreviewSet: edited message, quoted message, voice recording, attachments, link previews, location. Each item is { type, Component, isVisible(params) }, where params is MessageComposerPreviewVisibilityFilterParams. The area renders only when an item is visible.
A custom set goes in through the messageComposerPreviewSet prop, or the MessageComposerPreviews slot in WithComponents.
useMessageComposerPreviewState() and useMessageComposerPreviewSetFilter() are exported for custom containers. EditedMessagePreview and GeolocationPreview are now exported from the root.
MessageComposerPreviewVisibilityFilterParams include pollId, so a custom item can show the poll the composer holds.
Poll in the composer: no SDK preview
The SDK ships no composer poll preview, because the other SDKs don't support one. stream-chat sends a poll together with the message's text and attachments once the app removes the poll-only middleware; showing that poll in the composer is the app's own preview item.
The vite example ships one (examples/vite/src/ComposerPreviews/PollPreview.tsx): question, option count with the first options, and the poll's settings. Remove detaches the poll without deleting it, because the composer cannot tell whether it created the poll or whether it was already sent (e.g. a poll_id restored from a draft). A poll that no longer exists is detached, so the send does not fail on it. The preview is hidden while editing.
Poll creation dialog
The dialog footer is now the PollCreationDialogControls slot, so an app can replace "Send poll" with, for example, an "Attach poll" button.
Message bubble
MessageBubbleContent renders defaultMessageBubbleContentSet (quoted message, poll, attachments, text), customizable through a prop or the MessageBubbleContent slot. Items get MessageBubbleContentVisibilityFilterParams.
A message with a poll now also renders its text and attachments, and gets the str-chat__message--has-poll class.
The bubble content reads the live MessageContext, so updates the memoized MessageUI skips (e.g. the translation toggle) still reach it. Props passed to MessageUI override the context for the whole message.
Message actions
Each action item can carry isVisible(params), with MessageActionVisibilityFilterParams ({ isMyMessage, isThreadReply, message }). It holds the action's own rule about the message, and replacing the item changes it.
The default set's rules move from useBaseMessageActionSetFilter onto their items: edit hides for a poll message (poll_id) or a giphy, copyMessageText for a message without text, download for one without a downloadable attachment.
Item rules apply to failed messages too.
isVisible can only hide an action. Capabilities, features enabled on the server and the message's status stay in the base filter and cannot be overridden.
useUserRole().canEdit is now the update permission alone, the same check the base filter makes.
Example app (vite)
Settings › Composer: drag-and-drop the preview sections. Removing a section also removes the way into it (for example, without Files the attachment selector drops the File option).
Settings › Message: order the bubble's content.
While the Poll preview is on, the poll dialog attaches the poll, the poll is sent with the message, and poll messages can be edited.
Known limitations
A restored draft carries only poll_id, and client.polls is not reactive. A poll preview therefore has to fetch an uncached poll itself and keep it in its own state; the example does this as a stopgap. Fixing it needs a reactive poll store in stream-chat: REACT-1494, out of scope for v15.0.
Remove in a poll preview only detaches the poll. A poll created in the composer and then removed stays on the server, unused.
Docs
ai-docs/ai-migration-v14-v15.md covers the preview set, the poll dialog footer slot with an "Attach poll" example and an app-side poll preview item, the message bubble content set, and the action items' isVisible rules.
Docs pages to update: "Message composer UI" (the preview set, the attach example with an app's poll preview), the message UI page (the bubble content set) and the message actions page (isVisible, canEdit).
Tests: previews (order, edit mode, custom and removed items, slot, no default poll preview, a custom item showing the composer's poll, axe), the translation toggle reaching the bubble text, bubble content (order, classes, custom set, axe), the dialog footer slot, action visibility rules (poll edit hidden by default, also for a failed local poll message, and allowed by a replaced item, params passed to isVisible, no override of capabilities, rules applied with the base filter off), and canEdit for a poll message.
💥 Breaking changes
For the merge commit:
BREAKING CHANGE: useUserRole(message).canEdit is now the update permission alone
(update-any-message, or update-own-message on the user's own message). It no
longer excludes poll messages and giphies. A custom UI that gated an edit button
on it and wants that rule adds `!message.poll_id && message.command !== 'giphy'`.
BREAKING CHANGE: the edit, copyMessageText and download rules about the message
moved from useBaseMessageActionSetFilter onto the items of
defaultMessageActionSet as isVisible. A hand-written edit, copyMessageText or
download item without isVisible now shows wherever the base filter allows it,
e.g. edit on a poll message the user may update. Copy the default item's
isVisible to keep the rule. Item isVisible rules also apply when
disableBaseMessageActionSetFilter is set, which previously returned the set
unfiltered, and to failed messages: a poll message or giphy that failed to send
for a network reason no longer offers Edit.
BREAKING CHANGE: a message with a poll renders its text and attachments too, and
the quoted message now renders above the poll instead of below it. Such a
message gets str-chat__message--has-poll and no longer gets
str-chat__message--has-single-attachment.
BREAKING CHANGE: custom AttachmentPreviewList, VoiceRecordingPreviewSlot and
LinkPreviewList components mount only while their item in
defaultMessageComposerPreviewSet is visible: attachments while the composer holds
an attachment other than a voice recording, voiceRecording while it holds a voice
recording, linkPreviews while a link preview is loading or loaded. Previously they
mounted whenever the preview area showed. A custom component that also renders
something else (a location, a poll, an empty or upload state) replaces its item
with one whose isVisible covers it.

Documentation
Added a migration guide covering action visibility, message-bubble content, composer previews, and poll workflows.
…add a poll preview
MessageComposerPreviews renders a messageComposerPreviewSet, modelled on
MessageActions' messageActionSet: each item has a type, a Component and an
isVisible rule read from composer state. The preview area renders when any
item is visible. defaultMessageComposerPreviewSet keeps today's previews and
order and adds a poll preview, shown while messageComposer.state.pollId holds
a poll not sent yet (not while editing).
Integrators install their own set through the new MessageComposerPreviews
component slot. PollPreview is a slot too. EditedMessagePreview,
GeolocationPreview, PollPreview, useMessageComposerPreviewSetFilter and
useMessageComposerPreviewState are exported from the root.

Closes REACT-1430
…e settings
Settings -> Composer lists the composer's preview sections, built from
defaultMessageComposerPreviewSet. Drag a section (or use its arrows) to
reorder it, or switch it off. The composer renders the result through the
MessageComposerPreviews slot.
A removed section also removes the composer's way into it: Files drops the
selector's File option and rejects dropped or pasted files, Poll and Location
turn off their composer config, Link previews stops scraping, Voice recording
hides the record button, and Quoted and Edited message drop the Quote and
Edit actions.
Refs REACT-1441
PollCreationDialog renders its footer through the new
PollCreationDialogControls slot. PollCreationDialogControls and its props
type are exported, so an integrator can replace only the footer, e.g. with
a button that calls messageComposer.createPoll() without send() to attach
the poll to the message being composed.
Refs REACT-1441
…s shown
While Settings -> Composer shows the Poll preview section, the vite app
replaces the poll creation dialog's footer through the
PollCreationDialogControls slot with an "Attach poll" button. It calls
messageComposer.createPoll() without send(), so the poll waits in the
composer's preview and goes out with the next message.
Refs REACT-1441
…ist in the poll preview
The poll preview shows the option count, names the first three options and
counts the rest (a poll holds up to 100), and lists the poll's settings as
tags: multiple votes or the vote limit, anonymous voting, user-suggested
options and comments.
Refs REACT-1441
MessageUI renders the bubble's content through MessageBubbleContent, which
renders a messageBubbleContentSet modelled on the composer preview set: each
item has a type, a Component and an isVisible rule read from the message.
defaultMessageBubbleContentSet renders the quoted message, poll,
attachments and text. Integrators install their own set through the new
MessageBubbleContent component slot.
A message that quotes and carries a poll now shows the quote first (v14
rendered the poll above it). The root element gets
str-chat__message--has-poll, and a message with a poll no longer gets
str-chat__message--has-single-attachment.
Refs REACT-1441
…settings tab
Settings -> Message lists defaultMessageBubbleContentSet (quoted message,
poll, attachments, text) to drag or arrow into order. The vite app renders
the result through the MessageBubbleContent slot.
The drag-and-drop list is shared with Settings -> Composer as
SortableSectionList.
Refs REACT-1441
…ttachments
While Settings -> Composer shows the Poll preview, the composer setup removes
stream-chat's poll-only composition step, so the poll the dialog attaches goes
out with the message instead of as a message of its own. Turning the section
off puts the step back in its place. The migration guide's "Attach poll"
example shows the same.

This change adds configurable visibility rules for message actions, ordered message-bubble content, and ordered composer previews. It adds a poll preview and configurable poll-dialog controls. The Vite example adds settings to reorder and disable these sections and applies them to message and composer components.
Action-set items support isVisible predicates. The base filter applies these rules alongside capability and message-state checks. Default actions define message-specific visibility rules, and canEdit now reflects update capabilities without excluding polls or Giphy messages.
Message content renders from an ordered set with visibility predicates. The default order places quoted messages before polls. Poll messages receive a poll-specific class.
The composer renders ordered preview sets, including a poll preview. Poll dialog controls can attach a poll to the composer without sending a message.
Example settings and integration examples/vite/src/*
The Vite example adds sortable settings for preview sections and message-bubble content. It applies these settings to composer features, message actions, attachment selection, and component overrides.

…y rule
Message action set items take an optional isVisible, called with
MessageActionVisibilityFilterParams ({ isMyMessage, isThreadReply, message }).
The default set's rules about the message move from
useBaseMessageActionSetFilter onto their items: edit hides for a poll message
or a giphy, copyMessageText for a message without text, download for one
without a downloadable attachment. Replacing an item changes its rule.
isVisible can only hide an action: the base filter still checks capabilities,
server-enabled features and the message's status. Item rules also apply when
disableBaseMessageActionSetFilter is set. useUserRole().canEdit is now the
update permission alone, the same check the base filter makes.
The composer preview and bubble content isVisible arguments are renamed to
match: MessageComposerPreviewVisibilityFilterParams and
MessageBubbleContentVisibilityFilterParams.
The vite example allows editing poll messages while the Poll preview is shown.

The edited-message preview item wrapped its preview in a second
str-chat__message-composer-previews element, so the edit preview got the
area's padding twice and sat further in than the quoted-message preview.
Also types the migration guide's message action snippet so it compiles under

Import of POLLONLYCOMPOSITIONMIDDLEWAREID breaks the Vite build on the locked stream-chat version.
17-31: Major · Data Integrity & Integration · Quick win
Import of POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID breaks the Vite build on the locked stream-chat version.
The Vite example imports POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID from stream-chat. The locked version, 10.0.0-rc.25, does not export that name. tsc reports a missing named export, so tsc && vite build fails. The root examples:build script runs this workspace, so it fails too. The PR description already states that this build fails until a stream-chat release includes the export.
Do not merge this example change until one of these is true:
The example resolves a stream-chat version that exports POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID. Update examples/vite/package.json and yarn.lock to that version.
The example no longer imports the constant from the locked version.
The STREAM_CHAT_JS_PATH override does not prevent the failure for the ordinary build. It applies only when a developer points the build at a local SDK checkout.

Review comment at @examples/vite/src/App.tsx around lines 17 - 31:
Resolve the missing export in the Vite example by either updating its
stream-chat dependency and lockfile to a version that exports
POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID, or removing the constant’s import and usage
in favor of APIs supported by the locked version.

## Description of the changes, What, Why and How?
**What:** an integrator can now send a composer's poll together with the
message's text, attachments and quoted message. Until now the poll
always went out as a message of its own, and the drafted text stayed in
the composer.
**How:** remove the poll-only step from the composer's composition
chain. This adds no new config field or composer method:
```ts
import { POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID } from 'stream-chat';
client.config.setSetupFunction('messageComposer', ({ composer }) => {
composer.compositionMiddlewareExecutor.remove(POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID);
});
```
- `createPollOnlyCompositionMiddleware` and
`POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID` are now exported, so the step can
be removed and put back.
- The default `retainCompositionOnSubmit` keeps the composer's contents
for a poll only while the poll-only step is installed. Removing the step
therefore also clears the composer after the send. Without this, the
attachments step would leave out attachments the composer keeps, so they
would not be sent.
- With the default chain, behaviour is the same as before.
**Why:** the React SDK's composer can show an attached poll next to the
text and attachments (GetStream/stream-chat-react#3365). This makes it
possible to send them as one message.
## Changelog
- Export the poll-only composition middleware and its id, so a composer
can send its poll with the message's text and attachments by removing
the middleware.

Review notes: the inline comments below cover implicit regressions I found. The first one (MessageUI's inner MessageProvider) breaks the translation toggle, so I'd treat it as blocking. The rest are smaller behaviour changes or cleanups.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Regression: the translation toggle no longer updates the text. This provider takes its value from the memoized MessageUI props. areMessageUIPropsEqual compares only the message and a few layout props, not translationView. When the user clicks "Show original" / "Show translation", Message.tsx updates the outer context, MemoizedMessageUI bails out, and MessageText (which now reads this inner context) keeps the old text. The indicator outside the bubble still flips its label.
The same staleness applies to every other field the comparator skips: renderText, onMentionsClickMessage / onMentionsHoverMessage, unsafeHTML, handleAction and isMessageAIGenerated, for QuotedMessage, MessageText, StreamedMessageText, Poll and the Attachment tree. AGENTS.md: "A prop it does not check will not re-render a message." Before this change these components read the live outer context.
Suggestion: drop the inner provider so the default items read the outer MessageContext. Apart from direct MessageUI prop overrides it already holds the same values. If those overrides have to reach the bubble, pass them some other way, or add the fields to the comparator.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in 7ce7637: the inner provider is gone, so the bubble content reads the live outer MessageContext. Props passed directly to MessageUI are now provided outside the memo (only when there are any), so they still override the context. Added a test that toggles the translation view and expects the original text; it fails on the previous code.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Undocumented change for custom slot overrides. Before, AttachmentPreviewList, VoiceRecordingPreviewSlot and LinkPreviewList from ComponentContext rendered whenever the previews area showed. Now they render only when these default rules match. A custom AttachmentPreviewList that renders the location or poll returned by useAttachmentsForPreview(), or shows an empty or upload state, silently stops mounting. Worth a line under Breaking changes, or a note in the migration guide.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Documented in 7ce7637: a bullet in the migration guide's composer previews section, with a snippet that widens the attachments item's isVisible, and a BREAKING CHANGE footer in the PR description.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Minor: with the default PollCreationDialogControls, createPoll() sets pollId, then the controls await send(), and send() awaits compose() before releaseSubmittedComposition(). During that gap this item is visible, so the previews area can mount and unmount around every default "Send poll". That's a possible layout jump in apps that never opt into attaching polls.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Right, pollId is set before send() releases it, so the poll item mounts and unmounts. Whether that paints depends on whether any composition middleware waits on more than microtasks; with the default chain it is likely committed and removed before a frame. A proper fix is hiding the poll item while the poll-only step is installed, which needs POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID from the next stream-chat release. I'll follow up once that's in.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Follow-up: as of 6ba38ab the SDK has no default poll preview item (the preview moved to the vite example), so a default "Send poll" no longer mounts anything in the preview area.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
This checks message.poll, while the bubble set, str-chat__message--has-poll and the composer all key on poll_id. A local or failed poll message, as built by the poll-only middleware, has only poll_id. After a network failure, the base filter's error branch allows edit and this rule passes, so Edit shows on a poll message. !message.poll_id would be consistent.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in 7ce7637: the rule now checks !message.poll_id, and the migration guide and canEdit note say the same. Added a test with a network-failed local poll message (poll_id only): Delete shows, Edit does not.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Behaviour change for failed messages: isVisible now runs after the message.error branch. That branch used to allow edit for any network-failed message. Now a network-failed /giphy message loses Edit because of message.command !== 'giphy'. If that's intended, it's worth adding to the Breaking changes notes, which currently cover only the hand-written-item and disableBaseMessageActionSetFilter cases.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Intended: item rules describe the message's content, so they apply to failed messages too. A network-failed poll message or giphy no longer offers Edit. Added to the migration guide in 7ce7637 and to the BREAKING CHANGE footer in the PR description.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Remove only detaches pollId, and the poll already created on the server stays orphaned, one per attach-then-remove cycle. Also, if the fetch above fails (for example, a restored draft points to a deleted poll), the catch leaves a bare "Poll" placeholder with no retry or error, and the send then fails on the server because of the stale poll_id. Consider showing an error state, or clearing pollId when getPoll reports the poll as not found.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed in 7ce7637: Remove also deletes the poll (it was never sent; a failed delete is ignored). If fetching the poll reports it does not exist (code 16 / 404), the composer detaches it so the send does not fail. Other fetch errors keep the placeholder, since the poll may still be fine. Tests cover all three.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Follow-up: I reverted the delete in 82a78fa. The composer cannot tell whether it created the poll or whether the poll was sent (a poll_id restored from a draft can point to a published one), so deleting could remove a published poll and its votes. An orphaned unsent poll is the lesser problem. Deleting it safely needs stream-chat to track the polls a composer creates. Detaching a poll that no longer exists stays.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Follow-up: in 6ba38ab the poll preview moved to the vite example, since the other SDKs ship none; the SDK keeps pollId in the preview params for an app's own item. The example still fetches an uncached poll itself, because a restored draft carries only poll_id and client.polls is not reactive. That is listed as a known limitation in the PR description; a reactive poll store in stream-chat is the follow-up.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Nit (perf): no default rule reads customData, but this subscription re-renders MessageComposerPreviews and re-runs every isVisible on each customDataManager update. Apps that write custom data on each keystroke now pay for that. The default preview components also subscribe again to the same stores (attachments, editedMessage, location). Maybe leave customData to custom items that need it?
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
customData is the documented way to drive a custom item's visibility from app state (see the custom-preview test and the migration guide), and without it a custom item has no reactive input. The cost is one shallow selector and the isVisible checks. I'd keep it; the default components' own subscriptions are independent of it.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Merge order: createPollOnlyCompositionMiddleware and POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID exist only after GetStream/stream-chat-js#1970. yarn examples:build runs in CI, so this needs a stream-chat release and a dependency bump before it can go green. Nothing in this diff bumps stream-chat yet.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Agreed. GetStream/stream-chat-js#1970 is merged but came after rc.28, and POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID isn't in rc.28. This PR needs rc.29 and a bump before merging.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Follow-up: done. 7962e1b bumps stream-chat to 10.0.0-rc.29 (root and examples/vite), which includes GetStream/stream-chat-js#1970 and exports POLL_ONLY_COMPOSITION_MIDDLEWARE_ID and createPollOnlyCompositionMiddleware. 6f254c7 bumps @stream-io/state-store to 1.2.0 to match it, so there is a single copy and yarn types is clean again.
…le and poll preview
Read the live MessageContext in the bubble content, so a translation toggle the
memo comparator skips still updates the text. Props passed to MessageUI are
provided outside the memo.
Key the edit action's rule on poll_id, which a failed local poll message carries.
Delete the unsent poll when its preview is removed, and detach a poll that no
longer exists. Document the custom preview slot gating and the edit rule on
failed messages.
The composer cannot tell whether it created the poll or whether the poll was
sent (a poll_id restored from a draft), so deleting it could remove a published
poll and its votes. Also drop the default location item in the migration
guide's custom AttachmentPreviewList example, so the location is not shown
twice.

Update the workspace peer range in yarn.lock.
The root package requires stream-chat: ^10.0.0-rc.29, but the workspace lock metadata still records ^10.0.0-rc.28. The PR check runs Yarn in CI, where immutable installation can reject this mismatch.

src/components/Message/MessageUI.tsx:104-106 Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Use the cached poll when setting the poll layout flag.
When the poll cache has no entry, the poll content renders null, but hasPoll still disables the single-attachment layout. A single-Giphy message can therefore keep the wrong padding and display text that the attachment-only layout hides.

Update the hasPoll calculation in MessageUI to require that the poll for
message.poll_id exists in the poll cache, matching the condition used to render

Catch createPoll() failures in the migration example.
messageComposer.createPoll() can reject after reporting the creation failure. The documented async click handler does not catch that rejection. Match the default control and the Vite example.

The other SDKs ship no composer poll preview, so the React SDK does not either. The LLC still
sends a poll with the message's text and attachments once the poll-only middleware is removed;
showing that poll in the composer is the app's own preview item.
The example's PollPreview fetches a restored draft's poll itself: a draft carries only `poll_id`,
and `client.polls` is not reactive yet.
BREAKING CHANGE: `PollPreview` is no longer exported, the `PollPreview` component slot is removed,
and `defaultMessageComposerPreviewSet` has no `poll` item. An app that attaches polls to the
message adds its own preview item (see ai-docs/ai-migration-v14-v15.md).

feat(MessageComposer): make composer previews a configurable set and add a poll preview
feat(MessageComposer): make composer previews a configurable set
Nov 2, 2026
yarn.lock peer range (package.json:147): already fixed in 7962e1b. The workspace entry records stream-chat: ^10.0.0-rc.29.
hasPoll and the poll cache (MessageUI.tsx:104-106): keeping poll_id. The bubble content set, str-chat__message--has-poll and the Edit rule all key on poll_id, which a reviewer asked for. A message with poll_id and no cached poll is rare (a poll created in the composer is cached on creation), and the only effect is the single-attachment layout not applying.
createPoll() failures in the migration example: fixed in bef2e43. The handler closes the dialog and wraps createPoll() in try/catch, as the default controls and the Vite example do.
@MartinCupela Thanks for the clarification. I checked the current PR files.
Peer range: Confirmed. The workspace peer entry in yarn.lock matches package.json: stream-chat: ^10.0.0-rc.29.
hasPoll: Agreed. Keep poll_id as the signal. The cache-based change I suggested is unnecessary for the intended layout behavior. I withdraw that recommendation.
Migration example: Confirmed. The handler calls close() and catches failures from await messageComposer.createPoll().
No further changes are needed for these three comments. This was a source inspection; I did not run tests.

Ticket: https://linear.app/stream/issue/REACT-1441/make-messagecomposerpreviews-composable-like-the-message-action-set
Closes REACT-1430
Depends on GetStream/stream-chat-js#1970 (the vite example removes stream-chat's poll-only middleware, which that PR exports). It is released in 10.0.0-rc.29, which this PR now depends on.
🎯 Goal
Let integrators choose, order and extend what the message composer shows above the input, the same way they already can with the message action set. Let an app attach a poll to the message being composed, let a message bubble show a poll next to its text and attachments, and let each message action decide for itself which messages it applies to.

Remove detaches the poll without deleting it, because the composer cannot tell whether it created the poll or whether it was already sent (e.g. apoll_idrestored from a draft). Known limitations
poll_id, andclient.pollsis not reactive. A poll preview therefore has to fetch an uncached poll itself and keep it in its own state; the example does this as a stopgap. Fixing it needs a reactive poll store in stream-chat: REACT-1494, out of scope for v15.0.Docs
