When you say "description", can you be more precise about what you did?

I do not remember where I got this error. But this can be reproduced in various places.

    Here is another example:

    1. Go to https://support.freedomscientific.com/SurfsUp/MathML-Samples.html
    2. In browse mode, move to "Cubed Root of x" heading.
    3. Down arrow to the corresponding math expression
    4. Press Enter to enter navigation mode; you land to "in root x"
    5. Left arrow to navigate to next math item; i.e. "in root index 3"
    6. Press shift+control+space to read the description of the current item; here the error occurs

    Here is the log:

Thanks. The overview/description code is very weak. But it should cause an error. Hopefully it is easy to fix.

  5. moved this from Triage to In progress in MathCAT Project Boardon Aug 12, 2026

    What is very weak?
If you need more information, let me know which one.

As additional information, I am using

    • the MathCAT embedded in NVDA 2026.2beta10 (probably visible in the log).
    • Windows 11 25H2 (AMD64) build 26200.8875

By "weak", I mean "not fully developed". It has some simple rules for giving overviews, but I think it needs substantial work to produce higher quality overviews.

FYI: You can use MathCAT as an addon. The latest build is at https://github.com/daisy/MathCATForPython/releases/tag/0.7.6-beta9. I think it is also in the beta channel for MathCAT on the addon store.
